5.6m Custom Open Tender

Design, Naval Architecture, Client Support & Project Supervision

Project Overview:
We were tasked with the design, naval architecture, client support and project supervision for a 5.6m multi-role open tender, recently delivered to a 50m superyacht. This tender operates as the principal vessel for guest and crew transport offering exceptional versatility and functionality.

Client Brief:
The owner and crew of a 50m superyacht required a custom tender that not only fulfilled the practical needs of guest transport and watersports, but also met higher standards of equipment specification and construction quality compared to other market options available in this size-range.

Our Role:
SPARK provided comprehensive client support throughout the project, from the initial concept evolution, design and engineering development and naval architecture to the delivery of the finished tender. Our role was to ensure the tender met the client requirements, both in terms of design, functionality, build quality and aesthetic appeal, while also ensuring it was compatible with the mothership garage and crane constraints.

Scope of Work:
1) Design and Naval Architecture:
- Optimised Space and Performance: We designed the tender to offer 25% more internal space than a typical RIB of the same size, enhancing comfort and handling for up to 10 guests and crew members. The deep-V hull was specifically chosen to improve stability and comfort underway.
- Waterline and Bow Volume Optimisation: The tender’s waterline length and bow volume were optimised within the length constraints and low-profile envelope required for easy launch and recovery from the mothership tender garage.
- Garage Review: Included upgrades of the yacht's crane capacity, fenders and chocks to improve launch and recovery operations from a crew perspective.

2) Customisation:
- Client-Driven Features: Incorporating several unique features based on the client requests, including a removable steering wheel and seat-back, a custom wraparound fender, a high-quality sound system, a retractable internal boarding step, carbon boarding handhold and flag-pole, a ski-pole and wakeboard rack mount, a forward-facing projector light, towing equipment and soft-shackle lifting rings.

3) Project Supervision:
- Quality Assurance: Our team ensured that the tender was built to high standards, with attention to detail in both the construction and the finishing touches.
- Mothership Integration: Followed the construction, fit-out and delivery onboard the mothership to ensure seamless integration.

Outcome:
The 5.6m open tender now serves as a functional and reliable tender for the 50m mothership with a design that successfully maximised internal space while fitting precisely within the technical constraints of the tender garage.

Client Reference:
“Working with the SPARK team was a pleasure at every stage, from the initial design into operation. They took a proactive client-focused approach and delivered a tender that exceeded our expectations, combining practical functionality and a high-quality product within the limits of our garage and crane set-up. The result is a versatile, reliable and fun-to-drive tender.”
